Jerry Robert Kajuga was the national president of the Hutu extremist militia, the Interahamwe, which was largely responsible for perpetrating the Rwandan Genocide in 1994.
Ironically, he was from a Tutsi family whose father had acquired Hutu identity papers for his family. In order to avoid any kind of suspicion about their family being Tutsi, Robert Kajuga kept his brother hidden at the Hôtel des Mille Collines in Kigali.
Robert Kajuga fled Rwanda in 1996, taking refuge in nearby Congo for 2 years, before being arrested by UN Security forces and standing trial in Kigali and being sentenced to life imprisonment for war crimes.
